RLS Zoom Salon – Stevenson’s Samoa: A Historical Focus
Zoom Invite Link February 21st at 10 AM California Time

The Salon will portray Robert Louis Stevenson’s time in the South Pacific and Samoa, and his research into the history of Pacific Islanders which is the basis of RLS’s 1892 non-fiction book, A Footnote to History: Eight Years of Trouble in Samoa. The Salon will be moderated by RLS Club of Monterey President Monica Hudson. Monica suggests focusing on Robert Louis Stevenson’s South Pacific period, particularly his essay “A Footnote to History,” which provides insight into his efforts to mediate between various Western powers and Samoan factions during a crucial time in Samoa’s history. The essay is available online and in the library.
